why do you love me

February 25, 2026 · Spirit

asked god to a fevered man, whose fever rose to a screaming pitch - isn't it obvious? then lucidity calmed his nerves as he thought about his first date, who was she? ah yes: foxy cunning one eyeing his fat wallet, out you go, when he found himself struggling more and more to keep up with her expensive taste. asked god then to a fevered woman, whose first take was to charm, to curtsy, play cute then decided against it, did not work on her first date whose wallet became bare, she fleeced it well but don't tell the spectators eager for juicy gossip! so she smiled dismally - i don't want to die forever, bit her lips, that would not do. and the man came back to his senses, because you created me, that should do the trick as he waited for the pearly gates to open and found himself recalling his second date who thought his entertaining personality was to be captured, you know seized, made prisoner chained really to her endless naggings for more colors in life. what about you? asked god to the woman, who remembered her second date - that egoistic charlatan talking endlessly as she tried to get a word in, found herself tagging along to his every whim, laughing at gray jokes, tilting on plain boring, as he eyed her like some ornament, made him look good, for she walked dainty like, eased in fluid like to the upper class, he never belonged there. ouch. so she replied: i like you for you god, which was all grand, all swell, it did not swell god up much, since he spoke to the heart. oh is that right? the question seemed to hang in mid air, forgetting to breathe whoosh air let out - ah ... ... i want to keep you company, to live with you, did not say what she really meant. eternal life, glory, permanent gold. and as for hell fire, shudders - ew .... no way the man finding no open gates, just talking to the air, grew concern, concerned he might not after all be let into the party. hey, i know why then laid out his best speech, best performance, even dabbed that very expensive cologne he had saved up all year: i sacrifice. there, that magic word! and he did, he gave up a percent of ill gotten wealth, keeping the lion's share, after all it was his. man and woman they looked at each other, scoffed, rebuked, mocked, signaled disinterest then the third woman and man came up when both parties said they were no longer looking, suddenly got busy again, appeared at all likely times when the other party was heading out, shopping, heading, in, always a convenient trip to run an errand for the other, something both wanted, was it love? why do you like me the resounding theme - baby steps, larger ones, towards the same old games, towards a combustion, or lust. scratch the itch, bleed that sore, it bleeds out more patterns broken, patterns forming in one gigantic land mass of souls crying out to god. which god? and lust and love, they both sat at a table, having an easy conversation of choice and words, fascinating, spell worthy, crestfallen lust and love they saw not eye to eye, win win partners cried out, lose lose, i win and lust collected the chips, as always, he told love: it seems they prefer me!
