the right reasons and a wrong spirit
no. there is nothing wrong at all
with stepping into a merchandise store
to gather a few good essentials -
the house needs some fixing, the library
has been emptied out, the dog
is howling for more treats -
along the way i'll just stop for some coffee
breaks. some croissant eclair sprinkled with
fairy dust, the kind that turns the sweet
sweeter, the bitter fades -
what a spirit! the jubilation, the upbeat
tell tale signs are wrapped up in a red ribbon
with a dead end knot the finest scout cannot untie.
take a scissors to snap it away, to find out that
mysterious thump within, like a clockwork robot
eager to spill all those frenzied stories he hears late at night
but the cords have become like steel, they do not
pay attention to metal sharp. go away. the scratching
inside is like a booming sound in my head
howling like a dog losing his favorite treat.
tick tock, tick tock: moments become years
with a tide that had reached a crest.
then it all fell flat, as waves go, the sudden crash
of dystopia meeting unrealistic sweetness
no longer held back by bitter gone.
fairy dust, like the booming in my head exploding
with one gigantic swell
of a iron cord bursting from rust, decay and something else.
a magician outside, a spirit from hellish fiends grins,
mutters. i tried to tell you yah?
they say the devil tries to be a friend, get real close,
only when the outcome only goes 1 way -
and it's always been "my way or the high way"
and it's not hard to guess who my is:
for between me and the devil or his cohort,
i pale in comparison
when one has touched eternity, i've caught the veil,
the spirit dressed in a magician's robe
took the last laugh while replaying memories,
i did try to warn didn't i? i can't be blamed for some
technical fault -
the bitter got more bitter, the sweet fades,
fairy dust has run out.
